IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Catherine Mary
Ketelsen
October 23, 1963 – January 20, 2024
Catherine Mary Ketelsen passed away on January 20, 2024. Beloved daughter of Jeannette Ketelsen (nee Cuomo) and the late Edward Ketelsen. Dear sister of Janet Stover (Mark), Evelyn Ketelsen, and the late Donna Ketelsen. Cherished aunt of Eric, Evan, Kaleb, Kevin, and Tristan. Also survived by many loving Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.
Cat grew up in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. She went to P.S. 127, McKinley J.H.S., and Fort Hamilton H.S. She studied hard and graduated high school a year early. She held jobs in the neighborhood while pursuing her education. She went to the College of Staten Island and then transferred to Katherine Gibb's where she then went on to start a career in type setting. Cat spent her summers renting houses in the Hamptons with friends. She was very active and enjoyed playing paddleball at the local courts. But her ultimate joy was going out to the stables at Oyster Bay to go horseback riding.Cat earned several certificates in graphic design at Pratt Institute and eventually started working in New Jersey. She later moved there, purchasing her condo in the township of Bedminster. She loved hosting family gatherings. She would find creative ways to gather everyone in her small one bedroom. And when the weather was warm, she would gather everyone in the local picnic area for barbecues. She met her husband married in 2005 and they purchased a house in the township of Chester. After Super Storm Sandy damaged their house, Cat put her amazing eye for design to use and created a beautiful home.
In 2021, Cat moved back to New York, deciding there was a better path for her life to travel on. She resided in Bay Ridge for a time before moving to Staten Island. There she reconnected with old friends and helped care for her father and then mother.
Cat loved to laugh. Often jesting with a quick one liner or a goofy gesture. She went out of her way to make someone feel loved and cared for. We will miss her generous nature and adventurous spirit.
