and an outhouse.
Benjamin
attended school through
eighth grade
and went
barefoot,
as did
the poor
.
He
enlisted in the US
Army in W
WII
by

presenting that he was
older
than he was
.
In the service
,
h
e lost
his right
inner
ear
and
had
use of
his left ear
only
with a heari
ng aid.
Upon his return, t
he family im
mi
grated to New York
. Benjamin found work
at the Friars Club,
first as a dishwasher, the
n a cook, sous chef and
eventually executive
chef, the position he held when he retired 38
years later. Benjamin
and Eva
believed
in education
.
Eva Elsie
became a D
octor
of
P
sychiatry. Guy, their
el
dest son,
served as a L
ieutenant in
the US Army
and went on to a career in busines
s as a McDonald's franchisee
. James, the
ir youngest, obtained a
business degree from Harvard
and had a
ca
reer in finance
. Benjamin
also mentored
neph
ews and nieces and many others.

e came to this country in sear
ch of opportunity, worked hard,
pr
ovided for his family
and gave them a future.
He loved his family and friends. In turn, they loved him and cherish his memory.
