With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Barbara Ann Luisi, nee Conaty on March 14, 2021. She is predeceased by our loving Father, Vincent J. Luisi. She is survived by her daughters Deirdre Ann Luisi-Hands, Elizabeth Ann Luisi and Mary Ann Luisi and the apple of her eye,  grandson,  Captain Jacob V. Hands, USA. She was the devoted daughter of Anna Frances Conaty, nee Dillon and John F. Conaty Sr. – basketball player John "Red" Conaty. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Ann Campbell. She was the loyal sister of the late Elaine McNamara nee Conaty and John F. Conaty, Jr. She is survived by nieces and nephews Raymond McNamara Jr., Cathy McNamara, John F. Conaty III, Kevin Conaty, Michael Conaty, Coleen Conaty Goddel and Brian Campbell. She was a loving aunt to deceased Timothy McNamara and Sean Campbell and beloved sister in law to the late Raymond McNamara Sr.

We were blessed to have her for 89 years.  She was born and lived her entire life in her beloved Brooklyn.  She was raised at a time when to be Irish in American meant to be Irish from Brooklyn. As a young girl, she was always in the company of her large extended family including her dear cousins the Andersons and Conatys. Sunday dinners at her parents were large events. She was a graduate of the now defunct St. Joseph's high school in downtown Brooklyn. She worked for many years at British Overseas Airways Corp. While working in downtown Brooklyn she met a handsome mail carrier, Vincent J. Luisi of President St. and married him in 1956.  She became a doting mother to Deirdre and later to twins, Liz and Mary.  She was a magnificent mother without equal. It was important to her that we attend Catholic schools and both of our parents sacrificed greatly to make that a reality.  She was a Mother to many at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. She volunteered for every card party, every bazaar, every class trip. She ran the parish basketball clinic and taught a generation of kids the game the way it was intended to be played – selflessly and with a commitment to the basics. Life lessons. She coached girls basketball as well, believing fiercely that girls should be involved in and thrive through sports. She had a magnetic personality and to know her, was simply to love her.  A strong and progressive thinker, she was always inclusive and kind to everyone. A true confidante and friend, she was never trivial. She was deliberate and kind with her words, as they were spoken directly from her heart. After our Father's passing in 2003, she treasured time out with her girls. She loved to go out to dinner and drinks with her family. We were regulars at many Bay Ridge restaurants, especially those that played live music where she danced with unabashed joy at every opportunity. She was fun, funny and fierce.  A truly magnificent Brooklyn woman.
