Obituary

Anastasia (Anne) passed away on May 22nd at Norwegian Christian Home after living there for more than 7 years. The staff at the Home took loving care of her.

She was a lifelong resident of Brooklyn. Her father, Pasquale, was an Italian immigrant and her mother, Angelina, was first generation Italian from Hoboken, NJ. Her father was a hard worker and she learned from him. She was the oldest of 3 daughters. Her sister, Rosemarie pre-deceased her. She is survived by her sister, Johanna, and Anne’s children, James and Regina, and several nieces and nephews.

Anne was a single mom, and instilled a strong faith in God in her children. She often took them to daily Mass at OLPH. While raising her children, she obtained partial scholarships and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.

In 1978, Anne and her daughter became parishioners at St. Andrew the Apostle church. For many years, Anne sang in the choir and cantered at Mass and was involved in other activities at the parish. Anne was also a member of Sonseed, a Catholic Christian music group from 1978 to 1983. She was also a member of IHM Charismatic Prayer Group for many years and was also a member of Association of Christian Therapists. She loved Jesus, our Lord with her whole heart and He was central in her life.

Anne worked as a nurse at her alma mater, Methodist Hospital for a couple of years after she graduated in 1970, then she worked for Visiting Nurses of Brooklyn and then Brooklyn Jewish Hospital in Utilization review. In 1979, she went to work at Columbia Presbyterian in Washington Heights, NYC. It was a long commute and she could have worked closer to home but she really valued Columbia’s expertise and patient care in so many assets of medicine. It was important to her to work at such an amazing hospital. She was so good to our family, friends and acquaintances, advising them about what doctor they should go to for the care they needed. She retired in 1998.

She also went on pilgrimages to Italy, the Holy Land, Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina, attended the Passion Play in Oberammergau in Germany and traveled to many states in the U.S. for Catholic conferences or for vacation. She really enjoyed traveling and going to different places.

For many years, Anne also took care of her mother, Angelina, bringing her food and medicine and bringing whatever was needed.

Anne loved her children and her family very much. She loved having family and friends over for Christmas and other holidays and birthdays. She made really good meatballs and sauce! Yum! Anne and her sisters started a tradition of making Christmas cookies with Anne’s children and Johanna’s children and carried that forward to the next generation of children.
