IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Albert
Calcaterra
April 29, 2023
Albert Calcaterra. Beloved Husband; Father and Grandfather.
Albert Calcaterra was born on November 9th, 1940. He lived his entire life in the heart and soul of New York City's Brooklyn borough. He has been working from the age of nine, supporting his mother and his three siblings. He met his wife, Lillian, during his young adult years and had three beautiful children throughout the tenure of his marriage, Albert Joseph; Mary Margaret and Kim Marie. At first he worked as a boiler repair man at Manhattan Boiler and then settled in as a maintenance guy for the Garment District for 30 years. He worked with the likes of fashion icons, including Betsy Johnson.
Al, as he liked to be called, took an interest in many things. He had an extensive fishing and hunting collection that grew every year. He would casually fish throughout Brooklyn and hunt during the colder months in the Hudson Valley. Always bringing home pounds of meat for his family. He had an immense interest in history, science fiction and national geographic. Making sure he watched all his programs on a given day.
After watching his children become adults, he excitedly became a grandfather in January of 1993 and then again in May of 1996. His granddaughters; Nicole & Kaitlyn became his entire world, and he would do whatever he could to make sure they were happy and taken care of. Even if that meant sneaking oreos, Pepsi and treats to his granddaughters when they were not supposed to have any. He passed his love of history and playing chess to his eldest granddaughter, Nicole, who has become an historian and educator in his honor. They shared their love of history; fantasy; science fiction; oreos and hershey bars throughout their time together. Engaging in conversations that could last forever. Although Al never received a formal education, he always loved to learn new things and improve his own thinking and reading skills anyway he could. He passed his love for the outdoors to his granddaughter, Kaitlyn. He always pushed her to be brave, strong and supported all of her adventures.
He was a strong, tough man on the outside. But he was a loving and caring person who loved his family, grandchildren and his dogs more than anything in this world. Anyone who knew Al, knew he was one of a kind and will be forever missed. He is survived by his wife; children and granddaughters.
