IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Aileen Fox
La Mura
November 18, 1939 – October 15, 2025
Aileen was born in the Bronx, NY and was raised in Syracuse, NY. After two-years in Nancy, France, where her husband was stationed with the U.S. Army, she and her husband lived for many years in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn before moving to Staten Island, NY, where they lived for the past 35 years.
Aileen grew up as a bookworm and truly enjoyed intellectual pursuits. She received her Bachelor's Degree from LeMoyne College and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Wagner College. She was a teacher from 1971 – 1985, culminating in a 9-year engagement at Poly Prep Country Day School, where she met many wonderful colleagues and countless students who provided her with a very fulfilling and rewarding teaching career. She most enjoyed getting the students as excited about literature and learning as she was. In the 1980's, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer. She attended Brooklyn Law School in their Evening Division (while still teaching during the day!), graduated and practiced law for over 30 years. She was promoted to partner at the first firm at which she worked and retired from New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission. She exemplified being able to do anything you put your mind to.
She and her husband were very active in the church community, serving as lectors for over 40 years at St. Anselm in Brooklyn and Our Lady Queen of Peace in Staten Island, even pulling double duty by lectoring at both churches on many Sundays. They also LOVED to dance and were rarely in their seats any time they attended a wedding.
And if that wasn't enough, in her spare time over the years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, President of St. Anselm's PTA, Day Camp Counselor, Summer School Teacher, Cheerleading Coach and an active member of the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association. Her downtime was spent sewing (she sewed her own wedding dress!), reading a good book, flipping through the pages of 'Vogue' or clothes shopping!
Aileen was predeceased by her husband, Edward, who referred to her as "my bride" throughout the duration of their marriage, and her son, Edward Jr. "Ted". She is survived by her son, Kevin, and many loving nieces and nephews. We will all miss her terribly but will never forget the example she provided by living her life with integrity, grace and displays of kindness towards others.
